External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is in Russia to participate in 3rd Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) 2017. On Wednesday while commenting on the relationship between India and Russia, Swaraj said this is a relationship which has been connected with the common people of Russia and this is why she wants it to go further. “Ye wo rishta hai, jo Russia ke aam aadmi ne Bharat ke saath joda hai isiliye main kehti hun ye rishta aur aage badhe,” she said.
She also mentioned that many people asked her why is she travelling so far after recovering from surgery, to which she said that something is pushing her there and that is why she had to come. She was quoted by ANI as saying, “Bohat logon ne mujhse kaha itne lambi bimari ke baad aap itna door kaise ja rhi hain? Maine kaha koi kheench ke le ja rha h mujhe wahan. Isliye mujhe jaana hi hai.”
This high-level Indian participation in the Vladivostok Forum is in wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit as Guest of Honour at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in June this year. Earlier in the day, Swaraj told her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov that the “rock solid” friendship between the two countries cannot be weakened by anyone, reported PTI.
While attending the India-Russia Business Dialogue at the forum, Swaraj said that India was keen to expand its economic ties with Russia’s resource-rich Far East and sought Russian government’s assistance in facilitating Indian investors in the region.
